CHICKEN
by Dwight Fuqua
Remember when you were a kid and the other kids would dare you to do something?
"I dare you to do it." Sometimes they would "double-dog dare" you. Ah, but the
ultimate challenge was to say, "You're a chicken if you don't!"
My Dad used to tell me the exploits of a man he worked with named "Chicken." I
remember his last name, but I never knew his first name. They always called him
"Chicken." Whatever they dare him to do, he's try! Sometimes he put his life in
peril, but he just couldn't stand to be called
a chicken!
Peer pressure is something else! Isn't it amazing how we say and do things that
we otherwise wouldn't say and do because we want to fit in so badly? While it is
only natural to want to be accepted and loved, it is foolish to let someone
pressure you into doing what you know is wrong. "My son, if sinners entice you,
do not consent" (Proverbs 1:10).
