Hilleary Endorses Bryson for Governor

NASHVILLE, TN - Van Hilleary Republican candidate for the United States Senate today joined State Senator Jim Bryson at his official gubernatorial bid announcement in Nashville. Hilleary lauded Bryson and his family for their commitment to the conservative cause and willingness to challenge Bredesen and his scandal plagued administration.

"There are some fine gentleman running for the Republican nomination, but Jim is the person best equipped to unite Tennesseans behind his candidacy and he will make a great governor. He is a committed conservative, a party builder and a champion of the taxpayer. His character is beyond reproach. I join Republicans from all corners of Tennessee when I say thank-you to Jim, Carol and the Bryson children for their willingness to challenge Governor Bredesen. We need a change in Nashville and I believe Jim Bryson is just the person to instill a strong code of ethics in state government," said Hilleary.

Hilleary, a leader in the fight against a state income tax, also noted Bryson's commitment to keeping Tennessee an income tax free state.

"Jim is a champion of Tennessee taxpayers. Jim was one of a few outspoken leaders in our party who was willing to stand up to Speaker Naifeh and Lt. Governor Wilder when they were trying to impose an income tax on Tennesseans. I know that if Jim Bryson is our next governor, Tennessee will remain an income tax free state."

Hilleary stressed the importance of having a Republican Governor who is a party builder. "In just his first term Jim has proven himself to be more than just a conservative legislator. He has been a party builder, raising money for Republican candidates across Tennessee. This is true leadership."

Hilleary said that he looks forward to running on a conservative Republican ticket with Bryson. "I wish Jim well in his bid to unseat Governor Bredesen and I look forward to winning the primary and running on a conservative Bryson-Hilleary ticket. I am confident Tennesseans will send a conservative committed to change to both Washington and to Nashville in November."

Hilleary concluded by thanking the other Republicans seeking the gubernatorial nomination for their service to the Republican Party, "There are some fine men and dedicated individuals competing for the Republican nomination however Jim Bryson is best able to unite Tennesseans behind his candidacy."
